There is no separate radio licence. The licence fee provides for 8 interactive TV channels, 10 radio networks, more than 50 local TV and radio services; and the services available online via bbc.co.uk.
Most commercial local stations have gone the more music route with as few interuptions as possible.
Narrow playlists and high repetition.
On the Beeb you do get a broader music choice perhaps favouring an older audience.
BBC do believe in super serving the community with local news, guests and information, which used to be the case on commercial but is less now. Some may say this is a good and correct thing.
Style and presentation on commercial tends to be brash, youthfull and showbiz, and apart from breakfast, little personality.
On the BBC it is more mature with personality encouraged.
